Kimberly Trinh
2024 Scholarship Winner
Kimberly Trinh is a nursing student at CNM with a goal to pursue her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Originally, Kim began her educational studies in Computer Science but changed course after working as a caregiver. “I started working as a caregiver so I could take care of myself and my little sister. After coming to the realization that I loved the work that I was doing while caregiving, my academic goals had shifted completely. I had never felt as though I had a real drive or determination in my life. School and work seemed to be a means for survival, rather than passion; and I wandered aimlessly devoting myself to work to provide for my family. I feel as though I finally have a path in front of me, something I was able to choose for myself, and I'm so excited to begin.”
How will you build a better Albuquerque?
I believe that the mental health of our younger generation is degrading at an alarming rate. I would like to use my nursing degree to specialize towards the care and assistance of children in psychiatric centers. My little sister struggles immensely with mental illness, due to no fault of her own. She is my very best friend, and I would do anything to help her feel okay. I believe that every child in a similar position deserves an advocate that will do their best to help them see a future in which they are thriving.
